What does the hard-copy residue of a creative life look like? See below. Duncan Fallowell's notebooks, his unpublished journals - packed with anecdotes and observation - presumably the basis of his many books (travel, fiction, celebrity journalism) - have been placed in a safe deposit box in a bank for posterity. Duncan has lived and lives a 'rich and varied' life - the dozens of journals are proof of that alone. What will happen to them eventually? he asks. Madame suggests: 'A foreign university may buy them, I guess, after he's discovered whether the science textbook writers were right. Or not. About life everlasting. Not that the uni will know.'

ReplyDeleteThank-you very much for your interest. I'd like to point out however that these journals were on the whole not the basis for books - all that material is in other files - but exist in their own right as a more intimate record in parallel to my published work.

How fascinating. Can't we have a short extract from these journals. Seems a pity to hide them away where they will be forgotten and unloved.

ReplyDeleteI presume these contain a lot about his personal relationships and sexual adventures. Will Duncan be publishing a book from them? Or reading from them - he has a great voice

Talking of the 80s, fun piece on Lady Colin Campbell by Lady Lynn Barber in the Sunday Times today. You should do something, Madame A, on Lady CC's two adopted Russian sons.
