Duncan Fallowell: The death of Diana

'Death is the normality, life is the exception.' I like this line from Duncan Fallowell's essay 'The Death of Diana', in his latest book How to Disappear: A Memoir for Misfits. A newspaper should buy the rights to this piece for the next death anniversary of Diana. Fake iconoclasts will be appalled.

Superbus maximus. And glad you're back. Come to an orgy.

Oh. You're back again. Well, I know how stressful being single can be and how sometimes one must simply bow out and bury one's face in a friendly lap. I bought Mr Fallowell's Disappear book - I AM a fan - with reservations - he mentions my dead husband's nephew in it, an appalling creature who specialises in developing green belt land. He could do with a few belts himself!

thought you'd committed suicide - you want it both ways

Suicide? As if I'd give anyone that pleasure.

Lavinia darling, you've returned. How's Val? You must tell me more about this appalling person you mention. It's a moral duty to fight the lizards.

A lap? I'd get lost in one I'm afraid.

What a joy that you are back. There's no other site like this one. Not in the slightest. It is a torrid isle entire of itself. It's most important it remains unspoilt.

I thought it was a relatively straightforward setting then I saw there are two rigid pink things sticking up at odd angles . . .
