Catherine Bennett joins Observer

Excellent news - the new Observer editor John Mulholland has hired Catherine Bennett from the Guardian - as first reported on Arcati the other day. This is a good omen for a paper that has been compromised too long. Bennett is brilliantly civilised. Mulholland knows who I want removed.

Would this be poor Jasper? Oh do leave him alone. He was the victim of ID fraud lately, give him a break.

He can't've been. He has no identity

But Bennett has been at the Guardian for a very long time. Doesn't she get bored? The Observer is not much different. And who will she replace? Or is she going to write G2-style features?

I read Jasper Gerard and I think he's wonderful. His thoughts on Newcastle today were surreal and I hope he stays with the paper.

Get rid of Polly Vernon -what is the point of her?

I can't think that I recall anything Catherione Bennett has written over the years that sticks in my mind. Isn't she just a staffer with a pension plan and a nice prose riff that passes for smart writing in a whatever the Guardian is these days? She landed well at the Guardian.

You're a fan of Germaine Greer, aren't you Arcati? Greer in the Observer!

I have never understood your demented loathing of Mr Gerard. He's a decent sort and is probably appreciated more than the grim Mary Kemp or trouble-making Henry Porter.
