Susan Hill: 'Give Duncs a hug'
I'm glad novelist Susan hill has offered some comfort to Duncan Fallowell as he finds himself cyber stalked by the yellow-toothed anony-mice who scurry about the net in search of people to hate, click here. New Zealand appears to have hired a lynch mob even though Duncs' travel book is yet to be published. She relates how she, too, became a hate object when she dared to make some slighting remarks about a few indie book shops in the Guardian. Suddenly she was the Darth Vader of the chains intent on driving out the titchy shops still with door ding-a-lings and pounds-shillings-pennies tills. As Susan says, do write to Duncan and offer him a hug, click here.

Now what is all this nonsense? I've been away. In Malaya the New Zealand soldiers were always solid as a rock - but they hated having attention drawn to themselves. Could that be Mr Fallowell's mistake? He's noticed them.
Let's be reasonable ... if an author, any author, is prepared to resort to wild generalisations. using such childish and unintelligent adjectives as 'fat' and 'ugly' he/she deserves little sympathy. Did Duncan really believe NZers would take it lying down? [Ooh, bit of vileness there]. If he didn't foresee this backlash [oops again] he's too naive to travel abroad alone.
Susan Hill says Duncan is feeling 'upset, hurt and misrepresented'. Oh, poor lamb.
That is precisely what most Kiwis are feeling.
Whatever happended to your planned Hill / Fallowell soap opera?
