Maxwell: What you won't be seeing

David Suchet incarnates the old bastard Robert Maxwell any minute now on BBC2 – he thinks the old bastard had a softer side. Yes, well, Hitler loved his German Shepherd Blondi and Maxwell loved ducks. He would grow quite daft at the sight of them waddling about. What won’t be shown in the drama is the Maxwell helicopter that regularly took off and landed on the roof of the Mirror Group's old building in Holborn Circus. Hacks on the phone would have to hang up as his rotored taxi aloft drowned out all other noise – summertime was especial fun.

I am particularly amused that Suchet didn't want to take on the role if it offended Maxwell's handsomely monied widow, Betty. Couldn't the Beeb have found an actor with a more robust approach to his art as well as the body to match? Cap'n Bob was about 6ft 3 tall and wide to Suchet's 5ft 8in. Who wants to watch Poirot impersonate the fat fraudster who loved ducks?

For my premonition of Maxwell’s death click here.

There's Ross Kemp and there's the London Paper, but this Maxwell post has no comments. Oh, how we live in celebrity world and forget reality.

Readers of this blog, forget Kemp's latest and forget TLP's latest, how is your pension looking?

Disappointed? Come on, if wasn't Max, it was certainly Gordon Brown, and don't forget that name when it comes to the next election.

This is a good site, but why are some commenters so celeb focused? What about the reality of life?

I so agree - and of course I blame myself. Arcati is often accused of superficiality and celeb obsession, yet these are the stories that get people going.

I'm off to Israel for a few days and will file if I can, or when I return. I fully expect no reaction whatsoever.

I note however that even you are not concerned by the issue of ageism apropos thelondonpaper. Plainly, on my return from Israel, I am going to have to deliver some Google bombs on this issue.

You ought not.

"Arcati is often accused of superficiality and celeb obsession,"

Feeling guilty in some way, though?

"yet these are the stories that get people going."

Ah, what a relief! Not guilty, finally.

Don't feel any obligation: your Aunt Sallies deserve holidays as well. :-)
