President Obama and the Russian ice cream whores

Odd that a Russian ice cream company didn't realise its ad is racist. The central image is a caricature of Barack Obama set against Capitol Hill and the slogan of the chocolate-in-vanilla ice cream, Duet, reads: “The Flavor of the Week! Black in White!”

Pravda notes: "It is not the first time Russian advertisers have used the image of Barack Obama since he took office as the US President. For example, the image of the black president was used in Moscow to advertise tanning salons and a chain of dental clinics. In Rostov, the image of a black man, who looks like Obama, is used to advertise men’s shoes."

I wonder what Carol Thatcher would make of all this.

Are you sure this for real? A few days after the Presidential inauguration there was a joke circulating the internet about Baskin Robbins launching a new ice cream flavor in celebration of the new administration called Barocky Road; it is vanilla covered in chocolate syrup, garnished with fruits and nuts. This just seems like the same joke taken a step further… (you know, with digital cartoons).

I think it's for real, if you do a Google check, you'll see it's a news story - Sky News coverede it for instance. I'd prefer that it was a joke.

They even make Obama a tad more "colored" than he actually is... :-(

Oy, Duralex… how white are you? So it is ok to be a little black, but it is embarrassing to be darker? He should be offended that they portray him a little darker than he really is, right? You don’t even realise that YOURS is a racist comment, do you?
