Which loopy Tatler editor aspirant was once found ...

... on all fours under an office desk poring over a document? The person's melodramatic behaviour in a context outside the media hothouse might be regarded as worthy of sedation.

Have you seen the Divine/Duncan Fallowell clip on Wyndham Richardson Youtube? I think it's just gone up.

Michael Blakemore, director of the new Broadway revival of Blithe Spirit, says the movie made after the war was rather boring…

Blakemore doesn't know what he's talking about. The movie was definitive and no one has played Madame Arcati better than Rutherford, aside from myself of course, as a living construct.

Blithe Spirit is meant to be lightly satirical, farcy, frothy, fast and sharp - the movie is all these things. Angela Lansbury I'm sure will be adequate in her turban (I'm sure she'll wear a turban), but her Murder She Wrote baggage will tarnish her air of distracted eccentricity. Arcati should be played as a slightly self-deluded con who doesn't quite realise that she has the gift. Me, in a word.

I find reviewing a play much simpler if I have not seen it.

Now what has all this to do with Tat-cunting-ler?

So is it Divine, Duncan Fallowell or Michael Blakemore who is running for the editorship of Tatler, then? I did think this little Arcati titbit might encourage some insider speculation about the actual candidates...??

Splendid ideas - Divine would make a perfect editor as she's dead and could communicate her orders via me. Blakemore is a fool and wouldn't last very long, plus I bet he's some ghastly socialist or something. Duncan would be interesting in the role - alas Coleridge might grow nervous as he likes his mags to follow the catalogue template of lots of lovely pics and crawly copy and lots of tea parties and yummy cakes and little tots gambolling about on country pile lawns, the little bastards.
