NB If you leave a negative comment on YouTube for the video below it will be deleted - censorship in a word. Three of my comments have been removed. Mark McGowan practises censorship.
A very disappointing re-enactment of the death of the police killing of Jean Charles de Menezes by stunt artist Mark McGowan. I was expecting to see a man running into a Tube train and shot to death by hyped-up, self-aggrandising police as a bunch of civilian cocks and cunts screamed and cowered around and about in the carriage. Instead we have a silly cock with a bloodied grocery box on his head lying in the street outside Stockwell station as unwashed and beardy photographers take pictures: plainly London Underground did not grant permission to protest the unlawful killing of an innocent man. A very, very poor performance. I shall not be publicising McGowan's work again. Next he'll be doing at-homes with Hello! And it's time he learned to spell.

you have no idea how emotional it was
and
how important it was for
brazillian people who were there
I'm sorry Mark, but this is illiberal, quasi-undemocratic Britain (ask the Tories) and our protests require something altogether more ferocious than this lame exhibition with grocery boxes. The police should have been put in Gestapo uniforms - something that puts this disgusting episode in some perspective. It's time you stopped being fey. At the moment you're turning into the Quentin Crisp of Protest.
I told you - yawnola
I was there and I found it quite moving
What was moving, the sight of grocery boxes on people's heads? I'm surprised the actors were not carted off in a refuse truck to preserve the streets from litter. What that poor Menezes mother must think I hate to think.
This is a shocking response on your part Arcati. McGowan's "stunt" will now be broadcast all over the world, drawing attention to this murder. People will see an artistic representation of what happened, what a media circus it was turned into - the boxes could be anyone of us. You are a superficial, hateful person, and probably mentally troubled. You need special attention.
Why the Vitriol, Clover?
Oddly, my first negative comment on the YouTube video of this performance was removed.
Mr McGowan knows a bandwagon when he see's one.
Never a dull moment here. But how naive are you? Didn't you get what McGowan is about in the first place? He is a self-publicist.
It's your turn now mark
Looking back at other demonstrations McGowan has made, I agree that they are all lame and lack bravado and he is nothing but a self-publicist. He announces with ample time when he’ll be making an appearance to ensure there will be at least a couple of reporters desperate for news filler material and then goes ahead with his boring performances that bring nothing to the discussion of the topics but a “look at me, I’m so much more upset over this than anyone else and what I have to say is so much more relevant than anyone else’s remarks” (WHO are you?)… I’m surprised it took you this long to be bored with his fake hissy fits, MA, but I applaud your decision not to pay attention to him nor continue to expect anything interesting coming from this egotistic fool.
I only hurt for JC's family, because I realize they welcome (understandably) ANY publicity that would keep the subject alive until justice prevails and similar incidents become something of an ugly past.
What a lot of shite dressed as dog food.
What an amateurish disorganised attempt to raise an injustice and political issue called "artistic representation". Injustice is the little thought which went into this reinactment. The publicity that hopefully does contine to remind people of how we get it wrong... oh the irony. What they did to the Corona Lager box was shameless. The guy not being able to see under his box so lifting his box a bit, to get the angle right with the gun for the photographer was cringe worthy.
I hope their was Brazilian translators their as hopefully the words spoke louder than the actions. I empathise with any from the hard of hearing community, surely someone was their to sign so they didn't think it was a hoodies day out on Corona gone wrong!
Crista, darling - time for spelling evening classes?
Ok Finchie, So I spelt shit with an "e" on the end!! I am aware I have an ABC spell check facility with a green tick at the top of my screen. However I do prefer naughty red crosses. I do agree evening classes would go down a treat... *bends over to take a light arse slap from my latest concern*
Regardless of my learning difficulties even the shallowest of minds would appreciate where publicity seeking works. Given the subject material, and where it doesn't. Cardboard boxes stolen from the rough sleepers isn't anything spectacular darling.
Now the next hurdle, the damn word verification underneath this comment box. Is it necessary!
You tell 'em Crista. Alas, word verification is a useful hurdle against those would steal my virtue.
I disapprove of the boxism evident on this site. People have a right to bear boxes on their heads and it is an activity that should be encouraged. I used to think Arcati a beacon for free-thinking libertarianism but I now see she has her limits. Boxist cow.
Sounds very tasteless to me, but then I don't get out much.
Leaving a nice bouquet of cellophane wrapped flowers (£9.99 from all good petrol stations) might have been a more enduring tribute.
I can think of a few appropriate uses for a cardboard box but pretending it's the head of unfortunate J-C is not one of them.
