Why bother to write when one can speak so eloquently as George Galloway, Respect MP for Bethnal Green and Bow? Yesterday, in the Commons, he produced many priceless moments before he was ordered out of the debating chamber. In any case he was due to be suspended for 18 days following an inquiry into his financial links to Saddam Hussein's Iraq regime.
What you're not likely to read in the dead tree media - beyond a nod in the Independent today - is this bit of his long speech, apropos party donations and the source of Daily Express/Star proprietor Richard Desmond's gifts to Labour:
"None of the [political] parties here ... ever asked the millionaires and billionaires who gave and lent them money where they got the money from. I am tempted to give just one example. Richard Desmond is [was?] a substantial benefactor to the Labour party. Did the treasurer of the Labour party ask Richard Desmond from which part of his considerable wealth he was donating handsomely to new Labour’s coffers? Did the treasurer of the Labour party — I apologise to the right hon. and learned Member for Camberwell and Peckham (Ms Harman) for the language that I am about to use — ask if Mr Desmond was giving from the profits of “Spunk-Loving Sluts”, “Asian Babes”, XXX pornographic television, or the profits of the Daily Star — "
Mr Speaker interrupted him at this point ....

I'm stunned. Where did you get that bit from? Did you make it up, or did you have a spy in the Commons with a recorder? But maybe the sessions are simply broadcast?...
George Galloway is brilliant - so accurate , & maybe, just maybe , too much of a threat....
I was in the Commons chamber that day at someone's invitation and heard the speech. I subsequently took the words published here from Hansard - just to check I hadn't hallucinated.
It was plain that Galloway wanted to be thrown out to pre-empt the suspension. He's a shameless demogogue redeemed by a perfect flow of perfidious eloquence.
Err ?? GG is great - has his own TV show too on Sky Ch 171 Raj TV, most weekdays at 6pm, the man's a genius .
Oh, dear, Mme A, don't be taken in. Classic adolescent diversionary tactics - it's easy to be snarky and say things to show someone else up, far easier than defending your own power-trussed, ego-soaked behaviour.
Sure, he says funny things, but please don't mistake the kind of clever-clogs schadenfreude that provokes with any more enlightened insight. He's just crass.
And pardon me, but is there not a slight difference in type between Desmond and Saddam? I mean, the Asian Babes or whatever are an offence against taste, symptom of our times etc, but they are not (so far as I know - and who knows, one could always be wrong) in contravention of any major international law.
I too have seen George "Odious" Galloway in action, and I can tell you: he's far more in love with himself than anyone else could ever be. He's totally failed - I mean, he's patronised, ignored and then spat on (and in this sense betrayed) - his Bethnal Green & Bow constituents; he's embarrassed the House of Commons, he's a laughing stock, and he's really - so far as I can make out - ruining the left.
Well, there we go. I know you say "perfidious" - but don't be taken in by the "eloquence"! It's fake, it's spurious, it's all he's capable of - because there's nothing of substance underneath it.
