Do try to get a copy of Ian Halperin’s new book Hollywood Undercover – he last made a great splash with Shut Up and Smile back in 2002, an expose of the fashion world that was Jackie Collins’ book of the year in the Mail. His trick is to reinvent himself with an outrageous name and persona, launch himself into a crazy targeted world, Borat-style, and then document the resultant absurdities. He is a satirical action man.
I’ve interviewed the author and will put that piece up soon. But its most explosive part is on homosexuality in Tinseltown. “Nine out of 10 actors in Hollywood are gay,” he asserts, having communed with the Queers of the Round Table, a salon of celebrity cock-cocking connoisseurs. Halperin tells me: “Without a shadow of doubt Travolta was gay. He went through the Scientologist’s auditing programme which purports to re-programme gays as straight. I have seen incontrovertible evidence of this. I was shown a video of one of his ex-male lovers talking about how he was paid off by Travolta and other evidence. And I’ve seen pictures of him kissing a male lover. However, Tom Cruise is another matter. Everyone said he was gay but I never saw the smoking gun. The right question is not whether Travolta or Cruise are gay or not, actually, but whether Mr Ian Halperin is gay or not. :-)
Halperin is straight.
'9 out of 10' - that seems rather a lot even for actors. Perhaps you could seek Mr Spacey's opinion on this ?

Some mean-spirited people might say that Halperin has been payed off by Tom Cruise to spare him... or that he's afraid of legal action.

Everybody has seen them in the tabs. Even a child can suspect the effects that were used to create that illusion – well chosen still caps of a quick movement, a little work on the shadows, and that's it. Elementary.
Tom isn't gay. I should know. I slept with him once on a shoot.

I just finished reading Halperin's book. He didn't say 9 out of 10 actors are gay. He quoted a group of gay industry types (a poker playing group who call themselves the "Queers of the Round Table) saying people think everybody in Hollywood is gay, but in reality it's about 7 out of 10 male actors. They compared it to professions such as hairdressing, figure skating and interior decorating, where similar statistsics apply. They did say that 9 out of 10 actors who come out of the theatre are gay, which is where the statistic comes from, I think.
Halperin infiltrated the Church of Scientology as a gay actor and the results are fascinating.

Which still seems largely exaggerated. Besides, I wouldn't trust a gay circle on that matter. It's well known the gays tend to see gays everywhere. Most of the time it's wishful thinking.

This book is incredible. The inside behind the scenes of Scientology is fascinating. Also, Halperin's scene with Anna Nicole Smith is titillating. Wish he gave a bit more detail.
I don't think halperin is gay. I think he's nuts, he's funny and he's very bright but he isn't so fortunate as to be homosexual. Poor man. So cute, so talented, still not cool enough to be queer. Not TCTBS (Too Cute To Be Straight)

It's time someone exposed Scientology - they're a complete scam. I walked in to one of their offices on Tottenham Court Road and they tried to convert me.
